You can do this by hiding the power lead. This is done by tucking the lead behind the rubber seal of the windscreen as well as underneath the dashboard of your car.

It’s better to hide the power cable of your dashcam on the passenger seat side as it will stop any tangles with the steering column wiring loom on the drivers side.

While hiding a dashcam in your car there are a few considerations.

While installing the dashcam in your car you should place it in an appropriate position inside the car so that you can operate the menu screen with ease.

In most cases the power lead will not be long enough to route around the back of the footwell. A simple trick is to run the cable directly on the underside of the dashboards edge closest to the car seat.

Adhesive Cable Clips

In doing this the cable will be out of view. To attach the cable to the dash I use small adhesive 3M cable clips which you can pick up in most hardware stores for a few bucks.

Make sure the clips are 3M adhesive as lesser quality clips tend to fail after a few months especially in hot weather.

Centre Console

You should now have the power cable next to the centre console. In most cases you will have to gently pull away the side fascia of the console. The fascia is only held by plastic clips so it’s not too difficult to remove and also clip back into place.

With the centre console fascia removed. Plug the cable into the cigarette lighter socket and measure how much excess cable needs to be hidden inside the console.

This can be done by eye as it’s fairly easy to estimate how much cable trailing from the lighter socket is enough for a snug fit.
