Where to Mount Your Cell Phone in the Car
Learning where to mount your cell phone in the car is going to be easier than you might think, too. You’ll be able to find a great spot that will work for you.
Buying a cell phone mount for your car is definitely a good idea. It’s going to make it a lot easier to access your phone when you need to.
You don’t want to start fumbling with your phone while driving and put yourself at risk. These mounts are easy to use, and they allow you to access your phone’s essential functions in a very safe way.
Knowing this, you’ll want to make sure that you place your mount in the right spot to make things as easy as possible.
Take a look at some of the best spots to mount your cell phone so that you have the best experience.
Driver Side Window or Windshield
There are many drivers who really like placing their phone mount on their driver side window or toward the left of the windshield.
This is a good option for when you’re mounting your phone for short trips. It keeps your phone in an accessible spot that you’ll always be able to see. The downside is that it’s tough to charge it in this position, as you’ll likely need to run a cable across from your center console.
In addition, this isn’t a great fit for all phones. Some phones are too big to make this practical. You can’t afford to obstruct your view. If your phone is small enough when in landscape mode, then this is a good option.
Rear View Mirror / Center Dash
This is a tried and true position for your phone mount to go. You can keep your phone out of the way while still being able to see the screen and use it when necessary. It might be best to get a long arm mount if you plan to use the rear view mirror. Otherwise, a magnetic mount would work perfectly for your centre dash.
It should be noted that this position is a potentially distracting one. If you place the phone too close to your rear view mirror, then it may cause some issues.
You want to stay alert on the road and need to be able to use your mirrors at a glance. One of the other positions on this list may wind up being a better fit for some people.
Vents
Placing your phone mount on one of your air vents will be a simple solution. There are many mounts that are specifically made to latch onto the vents.
These include magnetic phone mounts that are easy to attach and allow you to angle the phone in a range of directions.
You’ll be able to pop the mount on easily, and it’ll be within your reach while driving. It’s perfect for people who just need to see their GPS information when driving to a destination that they’re unfamiliar with.
Of course, this position isn’t with its problems. The big downside to using one of your vents as a spot to mount your phone is that it takes up a vent spot.
You won’t be able to get the cool or warm air to come out of that vent while your phone is mounted there. This may be too much of an inconvenience for some, so weigh your options accordingly.
Console
Console mounts are pretty easy to use, and most of them are going to be magnetic. This is great when you just want to pop the mount on and get to driving. Some people aren’t going to like the fact that it gets in the way of some of the console functions.
Depending on how large your console is, you might find that your phone mount will block some switches, buttons, or ports.
It’s probably best to think about what your console looks like before mounting your phone there. If the mount is going to get in your way and become impractical, then you’ll want to choose one of the other spots.
The good thing about mounting your phone here is that it won’t be in danger of overheating. It also won’t distract you while you’re driving, so it’s worth considering at least.
Cup Holder
Cup holder mounts are among the strangest mounts on the market. You might not have really thought of your cup holder as a likely spot where you’d want to mount your phone. Even so, this will work out for some people.
It’s out of the way and might even work really well for those driving large vehicles with larger consoles.
This isn’t going to be practical for most vehicles, though. It’s going to get in the way of your shifter if you aren’t careful.
It also isn’t a good spot for being able to see the phone in most situations, as it’s going to force you to look down. This will be an okay option for some people, but it won’t be ideal for many.
